Music To My Ears posts chronicle a sampling the great music of a particular series, franchise, etc. Posts tend to be skewed towards videogames, but can cover anything with a great soundtrack behind it (TV shows, anime, movies, etc.). If you have a music track from the series discussed that you like, comment and it may be added to the post!
Part 2 of Part 2 of Part 2 here. These last tracks are from Umineko no Naku Koro ni episodes 7 and 8, the last two. 7 in particular stands out to me as having a great soundtrack.
Kiri no Pithos (Requiem Of The Golden Witch)
This is the opening for episodes 7 and 8.
Far (flat) (Requiem Of The Golden Witch)
The golden days before the tragedy of Rokkenjima.
Song Without A Name (Requiem Of The Golden Witch)
The theme of EP 7. This is actually just the instrumental version because I think it’s better. Ep 7 is a lot less about experiencing the mystery firsthand and more about looking back on the circumstances that led up to it – circumstances happening up to 50 years prior to the story’s setting in 1986.
Ballade-Continuer (Requiem Of The Golden Witch)
This is a brilliant song – it speaks of love, but it has a kind of constrained sadness and twisted quality to it. 50 years ago, love grew to have terrible consequences for Kinzo’s future family.
Ridicule (Requiem Of The Golden Witch)
You know something’s going down when you hear this. The ending of Episode 7 features a brand-new perspective on the Rokkenjima murders. While past episodes have danced (rather wildly) around the issue of the culprits, there’s none of that here. Instead, you get a story that’s rather direct, ‘proving’ one way the murders could have happened, surprising both the in-game characters and the reader alike – it’s a rather unexpected revelation, I can tell you that.
7 Weights (Requiem Of The Golden Witch)
The pieces fall into place. Major spoiler alert for the comments section of this song.
Last-End Conductor (Twilight Of The Golden Witch)
The song for the final logic battle of EP 8, which itself incorporates pieces and parts of the other battle songs (such as Dream End Discharger from earlier at 4:15)
Ricordando il Passato (Twilight Of The Golden Witch)
The ending song to EP 8 (well, at least one of the endings…). Unlike Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, which came before Umineko, Umineko leaves so much unstated. The identity of the culprit is never explicitly stated, so unless you are either reading between the lines or participating in fan discussion topics, you might not even know that by this point, nor how they did the myriad of ‘impossible’ murders throughout the episodes, each one a mystery unto itself. That’s not to say that Umineko has a cliffhanger of an ending, though. The answers are there, you just have to actually THINK about it.
So please, demo this visual novel series already.
On a somewhat-unrelated note, there’s this thing I found yesterday:
The song selection for the next Music To My Ears is already made. You should see it in a week or two.
