Game description: “Unhappy is he to whom the memories of childhood bring only fear and sadness.” Thus begins an atmospheric point-and-click adventure based on H.P. Lovecraft’s The Outsider.

Backstory and fun facts: For Newgrounds Game Jam 5, I was teamed up with 2 people online, Aigis and J-qb, both artists. Once again, we had 72 hours to create a game, and this jam’s theme was classic literature. We based our game on the short story The Outsider, and we made it into a point-and-click adventure with some puzzle elements. Between the three of us, living across the globe, at least 1 or 2 of us could be on the clock at any given time, which I believe was a nice advantage going for us (I believe one of us was in NA, one in Europe, one in Australia/New Zealand).
In terms of judging, The Outsider got second place in the competition. In terms of user ratings, however, The Outsider was the victor. And not only that, but Andkon Arcade and Armor Games both licensed the game for their own sites. The Outsider was also the highest rated Newgrounds game jam game up to that point, a record that possibly still stands now.
After this game, I was approached by GonzoSSM (artist behind ‘Toss The Turtle’, which is now a smartphone app ‘Super Toss The Turtle’) to make a game together that summer. While it was pretty far along, it ultimately never saw the light of day…
